An eye-catching lamp consisting of a round white wooden ceiling fixture on which hang metal chains holding discs forming two superimposed spheres, on which hang clusters of mother-of-pearl pastilles, linked together by small rings. Lighting is provided by two bulbs completely hidden by the curtains of pastilles. Designated in the 1960s by Verner Panton, the FUN collection is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago. In creating this model, the famous Danish designer innovated with a vital pop design, the use of new light-reflecting materials such as mother-of-pearl and metal, and the conception of a fluid luminaire that oscillates lightly under the effect of the heat emitted by the bulb and its thermal radiation. In the late 1950s, Verner Panton (1926 - 1998) injected futuristic impetus into the foundations of Scandinavian design. Initially trained as an architectural engineer, he went on to study at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. For two years, from 1950 to 1952, he collaborated with Arne Jacobsen. Fritz Hansen produced his first chair in 1955: the Bachelor Chair. But his creations soon became less conventional, and Verner Panton brought boldness and humor to his works, which have become benchmarks of Danish and international contemporary design: the geometric Cone Chair (1958), the cult Panton Chair (1967), the first injection-molded plastic chair, and the legless Amoebe armchair (1970). Verner Panton also made a name for himself with lighting designs such as Moon Lamp (1960, Vitra), Panthella (1971, Louis Poulsen edition) and Pantop (1980, reissued by Verpan). In the 1970s, Verner Panton abandoned furniture design for a while to devote himself to interior design. Today, the majority of his creations are reissued by Vitra, which devoted a retrospective to him in 2000 at the Vitra Design Museum in Germany. His lighting fixtures are still produced by Louis Poulsen. XX° period, Circa: 1965 Dim: W:55cm, D:55cm, H:200cm.
