French mid 19th Century Oil Lamp in patinated bronze
A lamp stand in gilded and patinated bronze, consisting of a circular base and a fluted floral ogee, surmounted by a fluted based resting on a square base and decorated with rosettes. Carcel lamps that were developed by Guillaume Carcel in 1800, were equipped with a pump which regulates the oil flow that fed the wick. Carcel lamp was deemed expensive and fragile, reserved for wealthy clients.
