Impressive pair of French late 18th Century Firedogs
An exceptional pair of andirons "retour d'Egypte" in gilded and patinated bronze, framed by heads of sphinxes upon which rest on one side a basin and on the other an ewer with cut sides, a sphinx lying in between. The bottom central part is decorated with a Gorgon's head medallion and floral motifs.
