Lacquered furniture and paper mache inlaid with mother of pearl, gold highlights and flower motifs are developed under the reign of Louis-Philippe. The specialists, Goudel, Osmont Mainfroy exhibit from 1834The origins of the furniture is of course the Far East, but another orgine is closer, especially this technique of applying painting on papier mache, which comes from England then flooded Europe with its products. Illustrious examples, Lamartine's room, the furniture of Louis-Philippe in Neuilly, attest to the popularity in France of this style between 1840 and 1850.
