Ormolu Clock: Astrology and Urany
An ormolu clock, with its beautiful original mercury gilding, representing the theme of astrology. A woman representing Urany standing draped in an antique dress reading a book. Astrology instruments, telescope, celestial sphere, a laurel wreath and a representation of a library around the dial. The lower base, standing on four balls, is decorated with cornucopias, amphorae and pilasters topped with rams head and connected by garlands. This clock is part of allegorical themes particularly appreciated during the first third of the nineteenth century.
