Pair of marble vases with giltbronze mounts
An important pair of vases in brown cherry red marble baluster-shaped ornate with rich giltbronze Louis XV style mounts. The two handles are decorated with foliage. After the Revolution, the french bourgeoisie and the court of Napoleon III dreamed of finding the splendor and elegance of the Old Regime. The influence of the Empress Eugenie, who devotes a boundless admiration for Marie-Antoinette, is crucial in this new fashion. The new wealthy industry leaders relay this new trend, which allows them to surround themselves with an aristocratic background, copied from the previous century. In the middle of the nineteenth century, between 1852 and 1870 under the reign of Napoleon III and much later, appear the " style" furniture and objets d'art, perfect replicas of those created in the eighteenth century.
