Sculptures in biscuit, decorative objects in biscuit porcelain

The history of biscuit porcelain dates back to the mid-18th century, when the first attempts were made by the Sèvres manufactory to distinguish itself from the polychrome productions of the Meissen manufactory. This unglazed white paste, with its delicate matte appearance, was used in the 19th century by European factories, including Saxony, Royal Dux, Samson and Sèvres, which remains the best known.

Galerie Atena's porcelain cookie statues bear witness to the history of biscuit : mythological figurines and statuettes, bowls, shaped pieces, candlesticks adorned with putti and decorative vases. Figurative sculptures include maidens, vestals and Psyche after Falconet, luminaires after Sèvres models, busts after Houdon in Limoges, allegorical nudes and Royal Dux bowls in biscuit polychrome.

Groups complete the collection: Louis XV-period gallant couples, mythological groups based on models by Boizot for the Manufacture de Sèvres, neoclassical centerpieces in biscuit Meissen porcelain.
