Mercury appears propelled into the air by a blowing cupid. The base consists of a cylindrical frieze of putti working the arts, based on a marble base. Signed Fulconis on one of the sculptures and Jean de Bologne on the other. Louis Guillaume Fulconis (1818-1873) is a French sculptor of the nineteenth century. From simple subscription watch, to the most elaborate winding watches, Charles Oudin participated in the workshop of his master Abraham Breguet in the development and production of his most spectacular inventions. Gilt bronze sculpture representing Diana the Huntress naked, standing on a cloud, a bow in her hand and holding her quiver on the back by a belt that goes around her chest. The crescent, attribute of the goddess, stands out of her hair held by a high knot. In an elegant position, she seems to observe the path of the arrow she just sent. The sculpture is signed Mathurin Moreau. Son and pupil of Jean-Baptiste Moreau, he won the second Prix de Rome in 1842 and exhibited at the Salon of 1848 where he received numerous awards. His work is rich with a predilection for feminine grace, figures and genre scenes and allegories.

An eighteenth century portable candlestick in Sèvres porcelain with its ormolu mount and a two-handled candle snuffer cone. The porcelain is decorated with garlands of flowers, foliage, polychrome leaves and flowers heightened with gold. The gilt bronze is finely carved with garlands of laurel resting on the edge of the porcelain, as well as flutes and acanthus leaves.

Pair of vases in white opaline and inverted baluster shape with wavy edges, decorated with branches of roses connected at the bottom by a blue ribbon. Multicolored birds gives a lot of life to the vases. A central medallion surrounded by arabesques painted in gold represents love scenes in the manner of the eighteenth century. Stripes with gold highlights the neck and the base. A frieze of roses on a blue background goes around the neck. The vases are attributed to Jean Francois Robert, a painter of landscapes and hunting scenes in the porcelain factory of Sèvres between 1806 and 1843. He was the inventor of a new process for painting colors on glass and to vitrify them by incorporating the surface of objects. His design, borrowed from classical painters of flowers in the nineteenth century are always executed with meticulous realism. From 1837 to 1855 Jean Francois Robert runs the main decoration workshop on half-crystal opal. This workshop is based in Sèvres near the royal factory. Maison Launay, Hautin & Co., depositories of Bercy, Choisy, Baccarat and Saint Louis are associated with Robert. he becomes their designer of choice. This association ended in 1855, when Jean-François Robert sixty-three, permanently retired.

A square box of "Bresse" blue enamel with gilt bronze mounts. Convex plates are decorated with arabesques in gold fillets and seed of flowers adorn the five sides. Enameled imitation of pearls with turquoise and opals adorn the flowers and frames the plates. The box rests on four feet spinning tops covered with leaves. Nice polylobed ewer in Moser Karlsbad glass, in a gradient of amber to red currant, patterned with polychrome enameled oak leaves and insects. Heat applied gold and silver tassels adorn the ewer. The history of the Moser glassworks began to be written in the mid-nineteenth century. In 1857, the glass engraver Ludwig Moser (1833-1916) created a small workshop, home to a store of hand engraved glass, for the rich clients from the spa town. This bronze is an edition of the nineteenth century from the marble by Antoine Coysevox who was himself inspired by the antique. Coysevox favorite sculptor of the King and of Hardouin-Mansart, executes for Versailles baroque and after the antique works even though he never went to Italy! In particular the marble replicas of the crouching Venus and Venus in the shell. Today, the marble sculpture is located in the Louvre, it was replaced by a replica in bronze at the Château de Versailles. Our bronze model is resting on a grey marble base.

Little clock in patinated and gilt bronze with porcelain flowers and a young woman holding an umbrella in one hand and in the other a container with drawers. A headdress turban hides the hair of the woman who is wearing a long dress fitted at the waist by a scarf. Around her a twisted tree with oak leaves in patinated bronze and porcelain flowers holds the movement. It is encased in a frame of gilt bronze, finely carved with flowers and leaves. Bronze sculpture with brown patina, inspired by the "Borghese Gladiator." The original is an antique statue in marble, depicting a naked man slightly larger than life (it measures 1.69 meters), apparently a soldier fighting a jumper on the left. Strongly tilted forward, he looks up and protects itself by covering up his shield, attached to the left arm. The left leg is stretched back in line with the axis of the torso, only the toes resting on the ground. Right leg bent supports the body weight, the balance of the statue being provided by a prop in the shape of tree trunk attached to the top of the right thigh. Pair of blue porcelain bottles embellished with scrollwork painted gold. They are decorated with multicolored flowers on one side and on the other a character in a landscape background . They are signed DARTE, Palais Royal, No. 21, which dates them back to Charles X (1825). Jean Francois and Louis Joseph Darte teamed under the name DARTE BROTHERS in 1804 and bought the Hotel Montalembert, rue de la Roquette and then resumed the Palais Royal store. Well managed workshops and quality products sold in their stores have given them a good reputation. Business was good and in 1816 a second store was opened. At the exhibitions of 1806 and 1819 they obtained the silver medal. The two brothers separated in 1823 giving an endt o their association.

A Louis Philippe period rectangular inkwell in gilded and patinated bronze with two ink buckets and one sand bucket decorated with lilies, four pen holder and a concave receptacle. It rests on four square feet. The periphery of this inkwell is decorated with neo-Gothic arches and quatrefoil motifs reminiscent of stained glass cathedrals windows. The bottom is engraved with crowns that alternates with a knight's armor on all four sides. The execution of the carving is very fine in quality.

Patinated bronze sculpture signed by Pierre Jules Mene, representing the deer and the branch. After Barye, he is considered the most famous animal sculptor. In 1838 he made his debut at the Salon where he quickly became popular. As Barye, Mene opened his own foundry to edit his works and those of his son Auguste Cain. He handles himself very carefully, casting and chiseling. He draws much inspiration from the animal repertory but also sculpts characters that are almost always associated with animals. This sculptor was first established Faubourg du Temple Street before moving to the Marais. The complete collection of works was published after his death and that of Cain in 1894 by the Susse foundry who bought the reproduction rights.

This group in silvered bronze, representing the three Graces, was realized at the time of Napoleon III after the monument of the heart of King Henri II by Germain Pilon executed in the sixteenth century. The bronze is resting on a green marble base. It is marked at the base "after Germain Pilon". The Graces are considered minor deities as companions of Aphrodite. They are the daughters of Zeus and Eurynome, the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys. In most cases, the three Graces personify beauty, gentleness and friendship. They served as a theme for many artists. Germain Pilon, born around 1528 in Paris and died in 1590 in the same city, is one of the most important sculptors of the French Renaissance. He was the sculptor of tombs of French kings of the sixteenth century. Son of the sculptor André Pilon, he learned from him, in shaping the clay and stone cutting. Appointed Controller of Stamps and Coins of the king, he also learned the art of carving and cast bronze. From 1558 to his death, he worked for the Court of France, creating the tombs of Francois I and Henri II, the effigies of him and Catherine de Medici, and the royal mint.

Royal Dux is the more common name for the Duxer Porzellanmanufaktur, which was founded by E. Eichler in Dux, Bohemia (now Duchov, Czech Republic), in 1860. By the turn of the century, the firm specialized in porcelain statuary and busts of Art Nouveau–style maidens, large porcelain figures, and ornate vases with three-dimensional figures climbing on the sides. A Paris porcelain inkwell in the style of Jacob Petit, composed of two parties. The bottom five feet resting on shaped scrolls, has two wells for ink and sand, and in the front shell-shaped bowl. The upper lid is carved with a dog in a sitting position. The choice of several colors of enamel, reminiscent of the shimmering polychromy of Jacob Petit's porcelain, with the mixture of rococo and wildlife.

A silvered bronze casket signed by Auguste Cain (1821-1894) topped with a pheasant, with two handles and four legs made of tree branches. Of the two main sides, oval niches are decorated on one hand with two rabbits and the other three partridges. The box is richly decorated with branches and mulberry fruit and nut trees. All the decorative elements of this box are in high relief which gives much life to this casket. It is very representative of the Romantic movement, which in addition to its influence on the sculpture aimed on the portrait and the treatment of certain types of subjects, promotes the emergence of a particular genre: the animal sculpture. Animals fascinate the romantics; they represent the wildlife, the world of Nature, perfect mix between violence and sensibility. The animal sculptors are simply following a path already opened by the painters, first by the English, then by the Romantics of the 1820s in particular Gericault and Horace Vernet.The work of Antoine Louis Barye is at the peak of the genre, it brings in its wake many sculptors such as Alfred Barye, his son, Pierre-Jules and his son in law, Auguste Cain, the sculptor of the lions and tigers, which made the representation of these beasts his specialty. In spite of the reluctance of the academic society which considers the animal unworthy of the great art, the critics and the public speak very highly of this production, which clearly influenced the decorative arts. The animal sculptors following the example of Antoine-Louis Barye also produced many decorative objects. Many artworks appeared at that time, using the animal directory. Stork, turtle, lizards or frogs appear on the base or on the stems of the candelabra. Each of these animal representations reflects, in its way, the romantic impulse that runs throughout Europe.

The rich ornamentation of these torches gives them a rococo style which is a continental art movement of the eighteenth century, which was widely copied and amplified in the era of Napoleon III. A very nice pair of finely chiseled ormolu candlesticks, with a base ornate with three winged animals. The stem is adorn with niches in the Gothic taste hosting armored medieval characters. In France, the troubadour style gradually assumes some importance. These are the writings of Chateaubriand who first raise the taste for medieval times. Since 1805, the Empress Josephine had installed at Malmaison a gothic gallery but interest in the Middle Ages touch at that time a minority. After the Restoration and the instigation of the Duchess of Berry, the troubadour style acquires a wide audience especially among the royalists.

A Louis XVI style Clock in gilt bronze decorated on each side by lion's muzzle and surmounted by a covered vase, supported by four scrolled brackets on a fluted base. The dial and movement are signed Emile Robert-Houdin son of Eugene Robert-Houdin (1805-1871), which is the most famous French magician of the nineteenth century, considered as the greatest illusionist and magician of all time, he was a major manufacturer of automated mechanism and a watchmaker known for the mystery clocks whose mechanism is invisible. His son Emile has preferred to pursue a career of watchmaker instead of an illusionist in the shadow of his father's fame. He also wrote a treaty on clocks and watch-making.

This bronze is a copy of the terracotta made around 1739 by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, right before his return from Rome. A similar version of this Mercury in marble made him academician in 1744.

A Charles X liquor set with three diamond cut crystal bottles and their caps and seven small cut crystal glasses. The plateau is covered by a mirror ringed with an ormolu bronze frame holding on three legs representing the faces of angels and their wings. In the central part a carved and finely chiseled stem is framed by three circular rings, richly decorated with flowers. It should be noted that some glasses are not the original ones. The development of the French crystal comes from the 19th century. It was produced in abundance, thanks to the advances in chemistry and machinery. Even though it spreads abundantly and generously, it kept on being a luxury.In the 19th century the production of French crystal is in the hands of four crystal glassworks:The Royal Glassware of St. Louis, founded in 1767 at Muntzthal, was the first one to discover, by sending observers in England, the secrets of the crystal. Since then, St. Louis specialized itself in the luxury glassware and held an interest for the opal crystal.The name of Baccarat crystal represents the production of three factories. The first one, Voneche was founded in 1778 near Liège, and was bought in 1802 by Aimé-Gabriel d'Artigues, nephew of the director of St. Louis. When the treaties of 1815 took away Voneche of the French territory, Artigues bought the St. Anne glassware near Baccarat. Then in 1822 the Baccarat crystal glassware absorbed Trelon in the north which produced at that time only window glass. The man who gave rise to the Baccarat crystals was a scholar, a glass technician, as well as a very good administrator: J-B Toussaint. Until his death in 1858, he gave a hard life to the competition in France and abroad.Among those competitors, the factory at Le Creusot benefited of the government support in order to find the secret of the colored crystals from England. The factory at Le Creusot, also called Montcenis was a resurgence of the Queen manufacture funded in Sèvres in 1783 by Lambert and Boyer. Following a mismanagement of the factory, the government decided in 1785 the transfer of the factory at Le Creusot. Despite some successes including the yellow and turquoise opal crystal, le Creusot fell into financial difficulties and in 1832. Baccarat and St. Louis came together, bought the factory and switch off the ovens.Two other factories were founded under the Restauration: Choisy-le-Roi in 1821 and Bercy in 1827. A clock in gilded bronze and carved representing the four seasons in the form of putti: a putto with sheaves of wheat for the Summer overlooks the rest and on both sides of the movement, the Fall symbolized by a putto holding a cup and grapes and the Spring with a putto holding garlands of flowers. Finally winter is represented by a child wrapped up. This clock is decorated with scallops that form a rich set of windings and foliage typical of the rococo style.

The body is decorated with a frieze after the antique in the manner of Clodion representing puttis in movement, playing a musical instrument, archery, joyfully around an altar. Handles decorated with women busts draped uncovering their breasts give these vases much elegance. They rest on a fluted pedestal decorated with garlands of laurel and acanthus leaves. A very nice quality pair of Louis XV style candelabra decorated with two young children in porcelain in the manner of Meissen. Standing on a rococo base and surrounded by a tree ornate with very fine flowers in porcelain and topped by an ormolu candle holder. The porcelain is in good condition except a missing basket in the girl's hand. They are most likely made by Samson in the second half of the nineteen century.
