Beechwood living-room furniture comprising a bench with a pair of cushions, two bergères and two chairs with flat sloping backs. The backs and belts are adorned with floral motifs carved in relief and crossed in drapery, recalling Art Nouveau decors. The bench rests on four fluted legs, the bergères and armchairs on straight, fluted front legs and saber-shaped back legs. The seat base, cushions and backrest are entirely covered in period blue fabric with a diamond pattern. One armrest of the bench seat folds down to create an occasional bed (it can be removed completely). The bench mattress is removable. The set is in good condition, with a few signs of use. Bench dimensions: H: 80 cm, W: 160 cm (as bench) and 200 cm (as occasional bed), D: 77 cm Armchair dimensions: H: 92 cm, W: 74 cm, D: 65 cm Chair dimensions: H: 95 cm, W: 44 cm, D: 44 cm. A French cabinetmaker and decorator, Paul Follot (1877-1941) was a creator whose work in the 1925 style remains marked by Art Nouveau. A pupil of Grasset, he retained from his master's teaching a taste for motifs and sculptures in wood. These stylized motifs, baskets of flowers or fruit, generally executed by Laurent Malclès, are carved in solid wood. Yet the shapes of his furniture differ from those of the previous period: his seats, for example, are more akin to those of the Louis XVI or Empire styles (medallion backs, saber legs). Follot was not only a furniture maker, but also a theorist (he was a professor of the Cours Supérieur d'Art Décoratif at the City of Paris): he provided drawings for complete ensembles, and had fabrics, carpets and ceramics made by various technicians. His taste for luxurious works did not prevent him from turning to mass-produced furniture as well, taking over management of Pomone, the Bon Marché art studio, in 1923. Art Deco period, Circa: 1930
