The "Young girl unmasked" is an Art Nouveau bronze bust with a brown patina, signed Georges Van Der Straeten (1856-1928). The sculpture represents a young woman wearing a dress with a pleated collar, her hair are tied in a scarf, and she is smiling with a mischievous look. At the foot of the bust are finely sculpted a ball mask and a rose.
The foundry stamp "Sociétés des Bronzes de Paris" appears on the back of the sculpture (n°7199).
Georges Van Der Straeten is a Belgian sculptor born in 1856. Before training in the art of sculpture with the sculptor Jeff Labeaux, G. Van Der Straeten was a lawyer for several years. He shows a great technical mastery in his achievements.
