He trained at the École Boulle in Paris, where he discovered metalworking. After graduating in 1921, he joined the workshop of Edgar Brandt, a building ironworker, where he worked for six years. At the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, Brandt presented his creations in the Pavillon du Collectionneur, to which Poillerat contributed anonymously as a draftsman. He began presenting his creations under his own name in 1927, when he joined the elevator and metal construction company Baudet, Donon et Roussel, more specifically the department dedicated to decorative elements of contemporary ironwork. By 1928, Poillerat was already exhibiting his work at the Salon d'Automne. Deeply classical by nature and respectful of the Old Masters, his taste tended towards the forms of the Grand Siècle. The period was characterized by the abandonment of the right angle in favor of curves and arabesques, which suited him perfectly. From 1935 onwards, he received prestigious public commissions, including the doors of the Palais de Chaillot, the railings of the Bibliothèque Nationale and the lighting fixtures for the Eiffel Tower restaurant. Nevertheless, Poillerat sometimes departed from the monumental to create small objects: floor lamps, andirons, small interior grilles and screens inspired by the work of old-time ironmongers. XX° period, Circa: 1950 Dim: W:55cm, D:55cm, H:200cm.
