A gilt bronze sculpture vase with a woman and satyr in relief on a naturalist background. It was mounted as a lamp and electrified. Signed "Jules Méliodon" and dated 1896 towards the base. Marked "LOUCHET" on the back of the base. Art nouveau period. Very nice pleated and embroidered lampshade.

Jules MELIODON (1867- after 1940) was a French sculptor and pupil of Falguière, Fremiet, Barrou and Messagé. He participated in the 1902 Salon, where he won an Honorable Mention. In 1933, Meliodon worked in Philadelphia on the figures for the Board of Education building. He was professor of modeling at the University of Pennsylvania.
