Fashioned in the Louis XVI style, this important oval table has an opulent decoration. Crafted of wood and gilded stucco, it is topped by pink and grey marble top. Neoclassical details of Greek waves, twisted ribbon, garlands and ribbon bow accent the table’s intricate design and fluted legs adorned with interlace. The console is embellished in the lower part with arches and garlands of flowers.

Inspired by the furniture and decor created during the reign of King Louis XVI (1774-1789), the Louis XVI style experienced a comeback in the second half of the 19th century, under the reign of French Emperor Napoleon III. This revival supported by Empress Eugenie, reintroduced a formal classicism to decorative arts and furniture with an emphasis on symmetry, straight lines and simplicity. Today, this elegant style is still highly prized.
