Important Bust in white Marble from theArt Nouveau period representing Cosette, the heroine of Victor Hugo's novel "Les Misérables" (1862). She wears the Phrygian cap - a symbol of freedom, which links her cause to the nation's. Once her freedom is regained, Cosette is depicted as a beautiful young girl, whose proud and determined attitude is reminiscent of Marianne, the symbolic figure of the Republic and icon of freedom. The Bust bears the inscription "COSETTE" on the base. Signed in hollow on the back: "A Bertier".
