Late 19th century mythological bust crafted of alabaster featuring Diana, wearing a tunic that uncovers her breast. Diana (or Artemis) is commonly depicted as a tall and thin young huntress with her hair tied up and dressed in a tunic. Goddess of hunt in classical mythology, Diana is a symbol of chastity and, therefore, protector of young girls until the marriage. The choice of this subject may be motivated by the artist's intention to highlight the virtues of the model depicted as the goddess.
