A pair of Louis XV style ormolu andirons, of triangular shape with a flame-shaped foliage decoration, resting on two feet. In the Louis XV period, fireplaces or andirons enabled bronzemakers to demonstrate their utmost imagination, combining different rocaille motifs or imitating nature. Indeed, the ever-increasing concern for realism in the treatment of bronze reflects the desire to rival nature. This is demonstrated by a pair of andirons that take on the twirling form of flames.
