Oval mirror on foot in micro-mosaic glass decorated with daisies on a turquoise background. It is set in a wooden frame. The motifs of foliage and flowers are in the naturalist taste of the late nineteenth century. The edge of the mirror has a gilding that accentuates the brilliance of the reflection. The micro mosaic of this piece is probably a Venetian work dated around 1870.

The micro mosaic is an important technique between the eighteenth century and the early nineteenth century. Elements of glass, enamel or hard stone are assembled making the joints almost invisible. This delicate decoration was created by two craftsmen Cesare Aguatti and Giacomo Raffaelli who invented tesserae made of spun glass: smalti filati. The glass is brought to fusion and amalgamated with others of different colors. This allows the creation of "rods" or canes of glass that are then cut very finely in pieces of less than 2mm. Micro-mosaic objects, made in Italy, gained popularity in Europe during the Grand Tour.
