This long and flared shape comes originally from the Greek bronze craters. These were used to mix water and wine in order to drink it. They take the name of Medici when a large bell-shaped crater was found in the inventory of the Villa Medici in 1598. A great example of the ancient craters, it is now kept in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. This form is then used in every material in order to evoke the magnificence of the Antique.
