19th century French pendulum clock with Neoclassical decoration.
Crafted of biscuit in Louis XVI-style, this exquisit mantel clock boasts gilt bronze adornments. It features Venus, the goddess of love, beauty and fertility in the Greco-Roman mythology, accompanied by two putti. The enameled dial is decorated with pearls and foliage, and tells time with ornate pierced gilt bronze hands. It is signed by the famed clockmaker Cauchard in Paris. The oval base is highlighted with gilt bronze scenes, featuring putti playing with garlands and interlace. This Napoleon III mantel clock is resting on six toupie feet. The mechanism is marked on the back: "MB 58650 12.11". Two "L" apocryphal mark underneath, Samson Manufactory.
