"Frédéric Sioufi and Nidal Ouaiss run the Parisian art gallery Atena, one of the best addresses for high quality antiques, with on the right a complete Empire interior (90 000 €). We were seduced by the neoclassical style marble pedestals (6 900 €) and the Eichholtz "Bora Bora" armchairs (5 000 €). The gallery's website exists since 2002.
The Louvre des Antiquaires used to be a prestigious place. 250 dealers were still based there in the early 2000s. Most of them are now retired or have stores scattered throughout Paris. "My wife and I were the pioneers in selling antiques online in 2002," explains Mr. Sioufi, "We faced several challenges. Buyers' interest shifted from quality antiques to speculative contemporary art. We also had to adapt to the new paradigm of online sales with objects of character, emotion, soul... Moreover, access to the internet has also allowed us to ensure total price transparency for our customers . Our customers are no longer only Parisians and tourists, but also collectors from all over the world, for whom a 3D tour of the gallery has been created. Recently, his two daughters joined the family business. To tell the truth, this was not initially planned because "they have a good education, but the job market for their generation is a nightmare at the moment"."
