Alabaster sculpture illustrating "Psyche revived by Love's kiss" after Antonio Canova (1757-1822). The statue rests on a gilded wooden semicircle base decorated with a frieze of pearls. Italian work from the end of the 19th century. The mythological group commissioned by the English colonel and art collector John Campbell was sculpted in marble between 1787 and 1793. It was acquired by Joachim Murat and is kept in the Louvre Museum. This group was widely copied and highly prized by European travellers on their Grand Tour of Italy in the late 19th century.
