Early 19th century bronze mythological group featuring a love-making scene with a nude seated Leda cuddling the Swan.

In Greek mythology, Leda was admired by Zeus, who seduced her in the guise of a swan. As a swan, he fell into her arms for protection from a pursuing eagle. Their consummation, on the same night as Leda lay with her husband Tyndareus, resulted in two eggs from which hatched Helen (later known as "Helen of Troy"), Clytemnestra, Castor and Pollux. Our bronze group is set on a Breche d’Alep marble base. Signed and dated on the base: "Rogue ft 1817" (Rogue fecit 1817).

Circa :1817
Dim: W: 5,5 in - D: 5,5in - H: 11,2in.
Dim: L:14cm, P:14cm, H:28,5cm.
