Flower painters in the Netherlands and Holland in the 17th and 18th centuries were true specialists in the genre. During this period, when the art of the still life flourished, flowers contributed to a real exaltation of this style, thanks to compositions painted from precise studies of nature. These flowers were presented in a variety of ways: in incredibly dense bouquets, often arranged in precious vases, or in simple baskets or basketry, almost always standing out against dark backgrounds.
The Dutch school of painting enjoyed enormous success in France during the 19th century, and its influence is felt in all genres: landscape, still life and scenes of daily life.
