This monumentally-sized Louis XV-style Revival mirror features an undulating, intricately carved giltwood frame on rosewood veneer background. Designed in Rocaille style, the mirror boasts foliate decoration of acanthus leaves, C scrolls and shell accents. This opulent and sophisticated assemblage of curves and counter-curves, shells and abundant vegetal ornaments, was very fashionable in the 1730s. Known as "Rocaille" or "Rococo", this style was widely imitated in the second half of the 19th century. The mirror's grand proportion and light wood decoration are rare and very prised.
