HOW TO RENOVATE ANTIQUE FURNITURE?

The bronzes are first carefully dismantled and then cleaned to restore their shine. If, over time, the original gilding has worn away, the bronzes are sent to a Paris workshop specializing in electrolytic gilding.
Then comes the cabinetmaking work in our Montesson workshop. After restoring the veneer and filling cracks and splinters, the wood is sanded with progressively finer abrasive discs. To restore the color of the original wood, wood brightener is applied, giving it a fuller, brighter appearance, and several coats of buffer varnish are applied to protect the wood. The marble is then polished for several hours to restore its lustre. Once the chest of drawers has been restored, it is photographed by our professional photographer.

The Mercier brothers' transitional-style chest of drawers has been sold.
