Review

Very elegant bust of a woman wearing a turban in veined marble and alabaster, by Guglielmo Pugi (1850-1915). The turban and the dress are finely decorated with embroidery. The bust is signed on the back: "Pugi". This marble statuette, made towards the end of the 19th century, reflects the taste of the time for polychrome sculpture and orientalism, still important at the turn of the century in Europe.

Guglielmo Pugi was an Italian sculptor active in Florence between 1870 and 1915, representative of Art Nouveau. The majority of his works are characterized by direct carving on alabaster and the use of Carrara marble.
